On October 1, 2013, the only hospital in Lee County, the Lee Regional Medical Center, abruptly closed. Another dot was placed on UNC’s map [1] of closed rural hospitals.
I recall my first three-hour drive from Blacksburg to Jonesville to meet with the local leaders organizing a plan of action. For some reason, I thought about Daniel Boone – and the Cumberland Gap.
Our firm spent most of the Fourth Quarter finalizing the transaction in which the people of Lee County secured a new partner for the re-opening of their hospital.
Throughout the past four years, these people never wavered from their singular focus on one goal: re-open a hospital in the county.
It reminded me of this quote:

Lee County faced many dark hours when no options seemed viable, but they preserved.
We congratulate the people of Lee County on their success in finding a partner.
We start our new year focusing the needle of our compass with the hope that we have the same commitment and determination in our goals that they did.
